   Underside of bench with spindles and arms removed


 

 Closeup of seat rail and seat brace with planks removed. Termite channeling visible at middle.


Removing nails from ocher painted seat plank braces.

 

Nails used are a combination of machine-cut square, steel and galvanized.

 

Corrosion has made removal of many difficult. The head of this one has broken off while being pulled.


 

 Above, after further excavating around nail and removal.

The length and type of nail(s) utilized was "more than adequate".
