Mauna'ala The Royal Mausoleum Nu'uanu Valley, Oahu Hawai'i Before Treatment      Above: Detail of incised lettering with gilding and primer layers completely missing. Left: Polished surface of marble showing exfoliation due to entrained salts within the stone.   Side panels were masked off, affected surfaces washed several times with water spray and allowed to dry for approximately two weeks. Washing completely removed all remenants of the previous gilding.
